Team Canteen at Festivals

Team Canteen has a presence at a number of festivals to raise awareness about issues surrounding food vulnerability and we also have a Festival Coffee Shed which generates funds for our work.

Forwards

We are one of the 3 project partners of FORWARDS, Bristol.

Forwards has 3 key Bristol based project partners with whom it shares values and works with collaboratively to deliver its goals:

  • Shared values and collaboration with Forwards Festival

  • Creating a festival which has food sustainability and equality at its core.

  • Showcasing, promoting and presenting initiatives and organisations working towards the same goals in the City.

We use Forwards as a networking space for Bristol food organisations to come together to meet, discuss ideas and possible collaborations.

We also have an audience-facing presence at the festival, via the stage, The Information.

THE INFORMATION

  • Forward Festival’s dedicated space for discussion, examination, debate and understanding on current affairs and cultural issues, plus challenging the role and responsibilities of music festivals in today’s society. A lineup of inspirational experts, speakers, artists, writers and thinkers from across the social and political spectrum join us each year.

  • The Information promotes the importance of participation, introducing people to new ideas and bringing them together for collective discussion which in turn will have ongoing impact in Bristol and beyond.

At The Information, we hosted the following discussions:

'The State of Food' with Jack Munroe and Jay Rayner

‘Food for Thought - The Ethics of Consumption’ with Christina Adan (Bite Back Founder / Award winning activist), Jasmine Clark (Viva Environmental Campaigner), Rob Percival (Author of The Meat Paradox), Shaunagh Duncan (Oatly Head of Sustainability) and Xanthe Clay (Telegraph writer / Guild of Food Writers).

The Information also goes to Silver Hayes, Glastonbury Festival.

TEAM CANTEEN COFFEE SHED

We have our own Team Canteen festival Coffee Shed where all profits from it go towards supporting our projects. The Coffee Shed has been at Forwards, and has also ventured into other events and festivals such as Bristol Pride, Love Saves The Day and Massive Attack’s show on the Downs in Bristol.

Backstage Catering AND THE FOUNDATIONS

The roots of what Team Canteen believes in are to nurture and nourish – this includes our immediate community – our backstage crew and artists, knowing the impact it has on mental and physical health. This began at Breaking Bread, where it started as a canteen for all of the crew. One of our founders, Shona Graham from Emmeline, provides balanced, nutritious meals in a seated restaurant for crew and artists alike at all of Team Love's events, which include Forwards, Love Saves The Day, Waterworks and one-off artists' shows.
