SCHOOL MEALS
UNIQUE VOICE
In 2022, Team Canteen supported the Unique Voices Project where we coordinated 2500 hot nutritious meals to 3 schools over the Easter & Summer holidays for primary children who would usually receive a free school meal. 5 different restaurants which included Coexist Community Kitchen, The Pony Bistro, Root Bristol, Bianchis and Emmeline; cooked 100 meals a day which were then boxed up & driven by volunteers over to May Park Primary School in Eastville, Fair Furlong Primary School in Withywood and Coniston Primary School in Patchway.
“We have been loving all the delicious food being served up by @teamcanteenbristol for our #HAF2022 Summer Programme!”
Ready Meals
COMMUNITY READY MEALS
We ran a year long project during 2021 producing a total of 11,699 ready meals (5407 cooked by partner restaurants and 4955 directly by Team Canteen).
These were delivered to community hubs and other distribution partners across Bristol (primarily referred through Feeding Bristol) including: Avonmouth, Henbury & Brentry and Lawrence Weston Community Centres, Baggator, BS3 Communities, Eastside Community Trust, Felix Road Adventure Playground, Southmead Development Trust, Wellspring Settlement and Caring in Bristol.
BREAKING BREAD READY MEALS
We developed a range of Breaking Bread Ready meals in early 2021 to generate income to support the community meals activity.
Three of our restaurant partners created a signature dish to be ordered online and collected every Friday.
The project ran from Feb - April 2021 and generated profits that directly funded 1005 community meals.
CHEERS DRIVE
In 2020, Cheers Drive delivered 160,000 meals and supported 850 individual people.
Cheers Drive, was the UK’s first-ever free food delivery service for people affected by homelessness. Styled like a takeaway delivery service Cheers Drive would ‘deliver’ food to those temporarily placed in hotels and hostels, alongside providing food for partner charities, shelters and vulnerably housed individuals in Bristol. Cheers Drive would feed up to 400 homeless and vulnerably housed people each day, with each delivery including a breakfast, lunch and a hot dinner.
With food provided by our hospitality businesses Salt and Malt, Pasta Loco (part of Bianchis) and Emmeline. This project laid the foundations for the formulation of Team Canteen. The takeaways were safely delivered straight to people experiencing homelessness in Bristol, the majority of whom had been moved from shelters and off the streets into temporary accommodation where they could self-isolate during the lockdowns.
COMMUNITY VEG BOXES
In 2020 The Plough Easton, The Pipe and Slippers, The Red Lion, The Love Inn and The Easton Cowboys gathered to pack the community veg boxes at Breaking Bread. A direct response to food insecurity during the pandemic where over 30,000 boxes were made around that time. Since then, The Plough continues the veg box scheme every Christmas with the continued support from The Love Inn and The Pipe and Slippers.
